On March 23, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius with the team, director of the Department of National Minorities under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania Vida Montvydaitė, and director of UAB PakMarkas, established in Nemėžis district, Virginijus Gumbaragis visited Vilnius district Nemėžis Tartar community, together with the Deputy Mayor of the Vilnius District Municipality Teresa Demeško.
During the visit, representatives of the Nemėžis Tatar community together with the community chairman Tair Kuznecov showed the operating mosque and the Tartar Community Culture Center, which was officially opened in 2015. What is more, guest got to know more about centuries-old culture and traditions, about successful initiatives and projects and active community.
Teresa Demeško, the Deputy Mayor of the Vilnius District Municipality, who was present at the meeting, was pleased with the active Nemėžis Tatar community. "We are very proud that among the people of different nationalities who live in the district of Vilnius, also the Tatar community is cherishing their customs. By working together, we are pursuing joint initiatives, while at the same time we want the Tatar customs, traditions and unique culture to be preserved and presented to the people of other nationalities. The Tartar community has repeatedly presented its culinary heritage to the inhabitants of the Vilnius area, therefore, we are glad that this year, at the exhibition “Adventur 2018” Tatar community exhibited its rich cultural and culinary heritage for the entire country, "said Teresa Demeško.
