On March 5, Irena Stankiewicz, chairwoman of the Association "Open House" (pl. Stowarzyszenie "Otwarty dom") from Bialystok, which carries out charity activities in Vilnius district, visited Vilnius District Municipality and met with the Mayor Marija Rekst.

On February 2018, at a meeting of the Council, Vilnius District Municipality made the decision on the organization of the care centers work and on the organization of childs guardians on duty care process. The main goal of the decision is to ensure a harmonious environment and living conditions for children (including disabled children) to grow in the biological families, and for the children without parental care - in the foster, adoptive families.

On February 20, 2018 Vilnius District Municipality Council, discussed 33 relevant issues on the agenda and made important decisions in the budgetary, economic, educational and other areas. During the meeting, the centennial of the restored Lithuania was commemorated.

The public health care institutions of the Vilnius district are facing the problems connected with access to primary ambulatory health care services that cannot be resolved by their resources. That is precisely why at the meeting of the Vilnius District Municipal Council, which took place on February 20, 2018, a decision was made to approve the improvement of the accessibility of primary ambulatory health care services in the Vilnius district public health care institutions for the 2018-2019 year program.

On 17th of February 2018, the First Lady of the Republic of Poland visited Ferdynand Ruszczyc Gymnasium in Rudamina.

On February 6 and 7, XXIX Olympiad of Polish language and literature of Vilnius district was held in St. John Bosco Gymnasium in Egliškės. It was dedicated to commemorate 100th anniversary of the restored Republic of Poland and 20th death anniversary of Polish poet Zbigniew Herbert.

On January 26, for the third time, National Blood Center organized a voluntary blood donation campaign in the Vilnius District Municipality, in which representatives of the Municipal Government and Administration participated.

According to the data of the Population Register Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, the number of residents in the Vilnius District Municipality is increasing every year since 2008. In 2017, 254 new residents declared their place of residence in Vilnius district. According to the data from the beginning of January 2018, about 103 thousand people live in the district of Vilnius.

One of the main Vilnius district characteristics is business traction, as it attracts potential investors. The number of registered and operating economic entities in Vilnius district municipality is growing every year since 2004. Meanwhile, the number of operating economic entities in Vilnius County decreased in 2018.

At the beginning of this week, on October 17, representatives from Vilnius district municipality government and administration visited the city of Volozhin (Republic of Belarus), where they discussed with the local authorities the prospect of implementation of the joint project concerning the Vilnius district Rudamina and the town of Volozhin. The market reconstruction, which is expected, will stimulate the successful development of farmers and small businesses.
