Council of Vilnius district municipality and mayor Robert Duchnevič sworn into office

On 21 April, Vilnius District Municipality held its first meeting of the newly elected Council for the term of the year 2023-2027, where members of the Vilnius District Municipality Council and the newly elected Mayor, Robert Duchnevič, took an oath.

Each member of the Council took an oath to respect and uphold the Constitution and the law, to faithfully perform all duties as a member of the Municipal Council and to refrain from any action that would violate the rights of the citizens and the public interest. The oath of office of Mayor was also taken for the first time by Robert Duchnevič, a Social Democrat elected in direct election.

In this year's municipal council and mayoral elections, the largest number of seats (18) was won by the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Christian Families Alliance, which, as in the previous term, will form the majority in the council. Social Democratic Party of Lithuania got 7 seats, while the centre-right coalition (Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats, Liberal Movement, Freedom Party) got 6. After the oath-taking, Vilnius District Councillors were presented with their Council membership certificates and badges.

Oath taken by Robert Duchnevič, Mayor of Vilnius District Municipality

Robert Duchnevič, a representative of Social Democratic Party of Lithuania, who won the majority of votes in the direct election of the Mayor, has taken an oath to represent the citizens of Vilnius District for the term of office 2023-2027, and to carry out his duties with honesty and honour.

The newly elected Mayor and sworn-in Councillors were greeted by: Česlovas Juršėnas, signatory of the Lithuanian Independence Act, Beata Petkevič, Kęstutis Vilkauskas, Marius Matijošaitis, members of the Seimas. Vilda Vaičiūnienė, representative of the Office of the Government Representative in Vilnius Region, and the Elders of Vilnius District also joined the congratulations.

 

The Council has established five committees

During the first Council meeting, five comitees were approved.

Economic and finance committee: Viktor Bojarovič, Gediminas Kazėnas, Edyta Klimaszewska, Valdemar Klimaševski, Martynas Motuzas, Tomas Ruzgys, Zygmund Ždanovič.

Health, family and social affairs committee; Kristina Boroško, Ieva Galvelytė-Adomavičienė, Daniel Ilkevič, Iwona Kazakiewicz, Karolina Pietrusiewicz.

Committee on Law and Order and Local Government Development: Vaidas Augūnas, Rūta Carik, Teresa Demeško, Zbignev Sinkevič, Renata Sobieska, Algis Vaitkevičius, Stanislav Zajankovski.

Committee on rural affairs, local economy and spatial planning: Stanislav Adamaitis, Tadeusz Andrzejewski, Irena Aniukštienė, Robert Rackiewicz, Artūras Želnys.

Committee on education, culture, sport and youth: Ruslanas Baranovas, Miroslava Klim, Stasys Mušeikis, Marija Rekst, Honorata Romanovska, Waldemar Urban, Jonas Vasiliauskas.

The Council will elect the Chairs and Vice-Chairs of the Committees at its next meeting.
